Thanksgiving Feast

Our Thanksgiving Feast was so much fun!

We made these cute Indian corn centerpieces.
We made special outfits and practiced our song.

Our feast consisted of turkey roll-ups, applesauce, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and raw veggies.

One of the Kindergarten students brought donuts to celebrate his birthday, so we topped off the meal with some non-traditional Thanksgiving food.

Brown Day

November is a great month to learn about the color brown.  The 3 year old class worked with brown in many ways, including:
Painting with feathers

Painting with marbles

 And cutting brown paper.
We glued the brown paper down onto a turkey shape.

On another day, we cut up red, orange, and yellow paper.  After everything was glued on, it became a giant turkey!
We also worked on counting skills by making these flip books with turkey stickers.

 Happy Thanksgiving!

You may have seen this cute little project come home recently.
The pumpkins have numbers on the bottom, and the students were required to recognize the number, then count out that many stickers and place them in the column.  This was a great project for practicing one-to-one correspondence. At this age, children need to take their counting skills from rote memorization to being able to match numbers and objects.

We've been learning the story of the first Thanksgiving by reading one of my favorite books of all time:
We did a picture sort and talked about the similarities and differences among the objects that Native Americans and Pilgrims used.

In preparation for our Thanksgiving feast, we are making Native American costumes that consist of vests, headbands, and necklaces.

The kids had a lot of fun creating these colorful necklaces!

Each student also created their own headband by decorating it with markers, and then choosing 6 feathers to attach.
 The final product:
The students decorated the vests (made from paper bags) with Native American symbols.

We are so excited to dress up for the feast on Monday! Our Thanksgiving feast is on November 19, from 9:30 - 11:00am in Krueger Hall.  Please let me know if you would like to volunteer during the event.

Halloween Parties

I'm almost a week behind, but the Halloween parties were fantastic! Thank you to the parents, grandparents, and babysitters who helped plan the games, crafts, and snacks.  We couldn't have done it without you!

Some pictures from the 3 year old class:

And the 4 year old class:

 Freeze Dance!

Thanks again for providing such creative and entertaining parties for the children!

Next, we're on to learning about Native Americans, pilgrims, turkeys, and Thanksgiving.
